Wow .. it’s been a month since my last post. I suppose it’s not much of an excuse that February was a short month. There just hasn’t been much that I thought was worth writing about. That doesn’t mean I’ve been a total couch potato. In fact, last week I was busy breaking in a new pair of Dehners<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It was a good week for breaking in boots. They arrived Tuesday, and I hunted Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday. I was a little disappointed when Sunday’s hunt got cancelled due to cold weather. I’m not sure if 3 days out of 4 is a record for me, but I’m pretty sure 4 out of 5 would have been.<\/p>\n

\nOf course, the streak had to end sometime. Yesterday, Crossbo was gimpy on a front foot. In the absence of swelling or any other visible signs of injury, I guessed his problem was an abscess. Although I’m sure Arthur would have been happy to hunt today, I placed a higher priority on getting veterinary care for Crossbo. <\/p>\n

\nVet showed up this morning, and agreed with my diagnosis. But he was unable to find the abscess to open and drain it. He scraped around for a while and whined about Crossbo’s hard feet. I guess maybe I can cut out the Biotin. We’re going to go with the usual bute\/antibiotics\/soaking regimen and see what happens.<\/p>\n

\nI hadn’t been planning to hunt because the vet’s office hadn’t been able to tell me when he could find time to get to me, and I didn’t see any way I could work around that. When he showed up earlier than I expected and was done by 11:00, I briefly considered knocking some of the mud off of Arthur and throwing him on the trailer. But I decided that unfortunately I just didn’t have enough time.<\/p>\n

\nSince this turned out to be a monthly report, I looked back at my calendar and realized that last week was an exceptional week in an otherwise dismal month. Due to weather and other problems, I only hunted a total of 5 times in February, and 3 of those were last week.
\nI’m not going to jinx myself by making any optimistic predictions about March being better. But, with 3 more days in the month, I might try to post here more than once.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
