OK .. I know I said I’d filled the political rant quota for the week, but I got this and had to share:<\/p>\n
\n We would be better off if the president pursued
\npolicies that prevent casualties — American and Iraqi —
\ninstead of policies that prevent us from viewing the
\nimages of them.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\nFrom a letter to the editor of the NY Times<\/i>, forwarded to me by a friend of parents of the author, so I don’t feel guilty about reproducing it here.<\/p>\n

\nTo the Editor:<\/p>\n
\n In his press conference, President Bush remarked:
\n“Nobody likes to see dead people on their television
\nscreens. I don’t. It’s a tough time for the American
\npeople to see that. It’s gut-wrenching”
\n(transcript, April 14).<\/p>\n\n To shield us, the Pentagon has enforced a policy
\nbanning the media from showing coffins carrying the
\nremains of American service people.<\/p>\n\n We would be better off if the president pursued
