Various news on the spam front. The minor good news is that I got another cheerful note from the folks at Project Honeypot telling me this site has helped indentify another spambot. The bad news is that I got a couple dozen spam messages in my inbox this morning that had made it through the… Continue reading Spam – Good News, Bad News, and SOS

Spammers Suck
Once again, this site has been the victim of scumsucking spammers. If these guys weren’t so loathsome, I would admire their tenacity and creativity. It really is amazing to see how much brains and brute force they devote to their misguided mission. But unfortunately, the net pollution they cause eliminates any admiration for them. For… Continue reading Spammers Suck
Gadget Review – Griffin iPod RoadTrip
Unlike a lot of blogging techno-geeks, I don’t spend a lot of time writing about my latest gadgets, mainly because I don’t buy a lot of gadgets. I have gotten a little crazy about the cameras lately, but so far I haven’t had a lot to say about them other than a casual comment along… Continue reading Gadget Review – Griffin iPod RoadTrip
Yes, we have RSS
If you don’t even know what RSS stands for, it’s Really Simple Syndication. Now you know almost as much about it as I do. If you’re a hard-core webhead that thinks RSS is the greatest thing since Google, you may be pleased to know that this site now has an RSS feed.
Real UnReality
I got an interesting email from a co-worker about a new TV “reality” show. Rainer and I think a lot alike (he’s the one who sent me this earlier item), and we share a common disinterest in reality shows, and TV in general. But he thought (correctly) that I might find this advertisement amusing.

In the never-ending battle against the evil forces of spam, I have put my trust in the goodness of blacklisting, for a number of reasons. Recent experiences… Continue reading Spam Bad – Blacklist Good – Filters Worthless
A Geek’s Delight
It’s probably a sign that you’re a hopeless geek pathetically in need of a life if you’re the happy recipient of email that says: Regardless of how the rest of your day goes, here’s something to be happy about — today a honey pot you installed successfully identified a previously unknown email harvester… Don’t forget… Continue reading A Geek’s Delight
Trapping Spammers with Honey
This site is now a proud participant in Project Honey Pot, a new campaign to thwart one of spammers’ favorite tools. Many spammers harvest email address with spiders that crawl the web sucking up anything that looks like an email address. Project Honey Pot is an innovative effort to trap them.
Should I be offended?
There’s a lot of buzz in the news this week about the Mac Mini. And it deserves a lot of buzz. It’s way cool. There’s also an irresistible urge to compare it to the (in)famous Cube. Most of the comparisons are somewhat unflattering to the Cube, and some Apple reps bristled at the suggestion, as… Continue reading Should I be offended?
What’s a mainframe?
I haven’t indulged in much technobabble here recently, so I guess today is as good a time as any for a good geek rant, since I scored another casualty in my long-running personal crusade to banish meaningless buzzwords from the vocabulary of morons. People who work with me have learned to humor me, with some… Continue reading What’s a mainframe?
