Just four days after I got the comment feature working, I got my first unfriendly comment from an anti-hunting wacko in Britain. Poor Daniel’s life is apparently so pathetic that he has nothing better to do than wander the web and attack the hobbies of people on a different continent. Hey Danny-boy, get a life!!… Continue reading That didn’t take long

The Geeking continues
Got a test version of Geeklog running. I think maybe I like it better than pMachine. Either one is way more complex than I planned to get into when I started this thing. But I guess that’s the way all obsessions start. Maybe it’ll keep me off the streets and away from stalking Kylie.
And still more geekiness
It’s been a boring weekend, and I don’t have much to say. So I started looking for a fancier way to say nothing. I started looking around at other blog software. There’s a bunch of it out there. I found this article that does a pretty good job of categorizing and summarizing the major league… Continue reading And still more geekiness
So what do you think?
I\’ve been geeking again. I went ahead and made the security change necessary to allow the comment function to work. I\’m fairly certain that the only risk is a slight chance of a hacker being able to wipe out the blog, and I don\’t think I\’m really much of a target. Of course, even without… Continue reading So what do you think?
Perl Jamming Again
I got bored because it was raining, so I decided to play with this site a little more. I found some code that I could add to it to provide a comment system like real blogs have. Unfortunately, getting it working without opening up major security holes turned out to be a problem. Right now,… Continue reading Perl Jamming Again
Let’s Kill all the Lawyers
or at least take away their cell phones. Wired News has a story about an Internet service provider (and all of its clients) being forced offline because one client made fun of Dow Chemical. Dow’s attorneys contacted the ISP’s upstream provider, Verio, claiming that the site violated the Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA). Verio couldn’t… Continue reading Let’s Kill all the Lawyers
Google works in mysterious ways
As mentioned in an article I cited recently, the Google search engine is one subject that we bloggers love to blog about. One reason is because of its sheer power. Many of us remember life before search engines, when finding a site was largely a matter of luck. I remember when Digital launched its AltaVista… Continue reading Google works in mysterious ways
Well, Gee, You don’t HAVE to read it
Wired News has an article about how blogs have recently been responsible for bringing issues, such as Trent Lott’s big mouth, to the attention of the media. It also includes some less-than-flattering comments about the majority of blogs:
When WiFi is outlawed, only Outlaws will have WiFi
According to this NY Times story, the Department of Defense wants to limit wireless internet technology because it could interfere with military radar systems. If our defense systems really can be jammed that easily, I think they need to concentrate on hardening them instead of trying to make the technology illegal. “I’m sorry, Mr. bin… Continue reading When WiFi is outlawed, only Outlaws will have WiFi
Internet Growing Pains
I subscribe to an email discussion list for foxhunters. Like almost any other open discussion forum on the Internet, it occasionally suffers from a low signal/noise ratio. And at other times, it’s just plain information overload; it’s all relevant, but just too much. A subscriber recently questioned whether it has become too big to be… Continue reading Internet Growing Pains
