Scottish observers are reporting large movements of US warplanes. Experienced observers say the large numbers are reminiscent of those that preceded the bombing of Iraq in 1998 and military strikes on Libya in the1980’s as well as the first Gulf War.

Recycled Joke
I’m usually not a fan of old jokes that have been re-written with a new cast. It’s fairly common, especially in the political realm, where the same jokes are repeated decade after decade with changes in the names to reflect the political leaning of the teller. I recently received an example of this, passed along… Continue reading Recycled Joke
Obscenity on the Internet
One common complaint about the internet is that it’s too easy to inadvertently stumble onto offensive material when innocently searching for something else. I had such an experience today. I was searching for some information, and ended up on a page with a teaser link that I couldn’t resist following. I won’t claim to be… Continue reading Obscenity on the Internet
Will Fox News report this?
From a Baltimore Sun story: Heavy viewers of the Fox News Channel are nearly four times as likely to hold demonstrably untrue positions about the war in Iraq as media consumers who rely on National Public Radio or the Public Broadcasting System, according to a study released this week by a research center affiliated with… Continue reading Will Fox News report this?
Bush Bashing – A Family Affair
When pseudo-president Bush came to Lexington on Thursday to help raise an obscene amount of money for the Republican gubernatorial candidate, over a thousand Kentuckians turned out to express their displeasure with the state of the nation. Not surprisingly, a few of those protestors were Simpsons. I took the Nikon along and managed to snap… Continue reading Bush Bashing – A Family Affair
Big Brother would love this!
A Wired story reports on a research project at Georgia Tech to evaluate using GPS technology to calculate automobile insurance rates. GPS units have been installed in 500 vehicles from a randomly selected cross section of households. The tracking boxes will create a detailed log of where every car went and when, how fast they… Continue reading Big Brother would love this!
Gee, that’s pretty easy advice
From a New York Times article: WASHINGTON, Sept. 29 — A group of businessmen linked by their close ties to President Bush, his family and his administration have set up a consulting firm to advise companies that want to do business in Iraq, including those seeking pieces of taxpayer-financed reconstruction projects. I could hand out… Continue reading Gee, that’s pretty easy advice
Felons in the White House? Surely Not!!
Well, the CIA thinks maybe so, and has asked the Justice Dept. to investigate. It’s not really a new issue; I mentioned it here in July, but nobody was paying much attention back then. Now it may be getting the attention it deserves. The CIA has officially requested a DOJ investigation. (I never thought it… Continue reading Felons in the White House? Surely Not!!
JetBlue – Deeper and Deeper
My JetBlue stock is still holding steady at $59, so their little privacy oops doesn’t seem to have hurt them too badly .. yet. But the news just won’t die. Wired keeps hammering on the story, other media are picking it up, lawsuits have been filed, and federal agencies are investigating.
The World has Gone Crazy (or maybe just the USA)
I’m beginning to think that anybody who looked at our country as an example of democracy in action would quickly reach the conclusion that it’s a very bad idea. Our election process has become a farce, and it’s hard to say who is dumber, the news media who are dishing out crap, or the population… Continue reading The World has Gone Crazy (or maybe just the USA)
