It’s the time of year when everybody is full of holiday spirits, or just using the holiday as an excuse to be full of spirits. With the holiday spirit in mind, I recieved a couple of recent emails that I thought were worthy of comment. They were both humorous, but I thought that each could… Continue reading Look out for the wall!

Hottie of the Week
I may be reaching the point many bloggers reach, where the novelty wears off and I realize I really don’t have anything interesting to say. Of course, the political scene has provided lots of fodder, but I don’t have any unique insight that hasn’t already been covered by thousands of others. So I’m falling back… Continue reading Hottie of the Week
The Resurrection of Spaldings!!!
UPDATE — They’re open! Great news on the front page of today’s paper!! Spalding’s Bakery is going to re-open next spring. As I’ve said before, if you haven’t had a Spalding’s doughnut, you won’t understand.
Katrin-Aid
It’s almost embarrassing to admit that I didn’t get around to donating to any Katrina relief funds until today. I certainly can’t claim that the delay was due to a lack of information. I’ve been inundated with suggestions for deserving organizations, and warnings about less worthy ones. I guess I could use the excuse that… Continue reading Katrin-Aid
AYMF, Googling Julia, and Cornholing
Despite the cryptic title, this post is hardly provocative, and probably borders on boring to all except those involved (and maybe even them). Saturday I made a quick trip up to Dayton to reunite with some of the AYMF Club at the annual Sommerfest. I stuck the Fuji in my pocket in case there were… Continue reading AYMF, Googling Julia, and Cornholing
Never Too Late
New York Times has a fun story about a time travellers’ convention at MIT this weekend. It’s supposedly the first ever, and organizers say it’s the only one the world needs, because people from the future (or past) can travel to it any time they want to. The organizers seem to have a reasonable attitude… Continue reading Never Too Late
Campus Crime
As spring returns to campus, the Kernel‘s Crime Report begins to look a little more interesting as students come out of hibernation and start feeling the joy of the season. This week’s report is still mostly mundane items like theft, but there are a couple of interesting items.
A Picture Perfect Weekend
Well, actually, some of the pictures were far from perfect. But a couple of my cameras got a little bit of a workout this weekend. Saturday was the Lexington St. Patrick’s Day parade, as well as the second anniversary of the invasion of Iraq. And, of course, Sunday was a hunting day.
A Glimmer of Hope?
UPDATE — They’re open! Maybe all is not lost. I recently reported the sad news about Spalding’s sudden and unexpected closing, along with the grapevine rumor that it was permanent. Finally, the local news media got off their butts and shed some light on the story. It’s disgraceful that it took them over a month… Continue reading A Glimmer of Hope?
Is Life Worth Living Any More?
UPDATE — They’re open! This is supposed to be the time of year for feeling Mary, or something like that. But I’ve always been a little grinchy about Christmas. And then today, I got hit by devastating news that just killed any desire I might have had to celebrate. It wasn’t completely unexpected; there had… Continue reading Is Life Worth Living Any More?
