There are some interesting news reports about a new anti-theft gadget for mobile electronic devices (laptops, phones, etc.) Interesting concept, but even if it works, I see a problem with it.
The device has sensors to monitor the owner’s walking style. If it detects a significant difference in gait, it assumes it’s been stolen and locks the device and asks for a password.
It occurs to me that if the rightful owner’s gait changes enough to trigger the device, there’s a good chance that he’s also going to suffer from slight temporary intellectual impairment which might interfere with his ability to remember a password.
