OK … the stinking fascist intolerant rabid hate-mongering closed-minded illiterate Gestapo thought police in this country have gone too far. We’ve had to listen to assholes like Toby Keith, Darryl Worley, Charlie Daniels, etc. spew filthy lies and racist hatred, while at the same time listen to criticism of “liberal Hollywood celebrities” who dare to express a political opinion that questions the morality of illegal wars. I’ve tried to ignore these morons; after all, they do have a right to their opinions. I just shrugged when local radio stations ran over Dixie Chicks CDs with a bulldozer. Actually, that turned out to have a silver lining. If they hadn’t pissed off Natalie Maines, she might not have made this ACLU ad. (You really need to see a print version of that … the scanner just couldn’t pick up the intensity of her eyes). All of that crap is just part of the cost of living in a free country. But now I’m pissed.
The lovely Linda Ronstadt, who has held a starring role in my fantasies for 30 years now (I can almost hear the chuckling from one of my loyal readers out in SoCal), was escorted off stage by security guards at the Alladin Hotel in Las Vegas, and ejected from the premises without even being allowed to return to her dressing room. Why? She pissed off the hotel owner by dedicating the song “Desperado” to Michael Moore, and suggesting that the audience see Moore’s movie, Fahrenheit 9/11.
That’s right, folks. In this “land of the free”, mentioning a documentary which exposes facts some people find uncomfortable is enough to bring the Gestapo out of the woodwork. I could almost buy the argument that the audience was paying for entertainment, not political commentary, except that nobody seems to object to entertainers cramming right-wing drivel down our throats.
And, just in case you’re looking for more information about this incident, I just couldn’t resist linking to this article from Pravda. You just have to love the irony of the flag-wavers giving the infamous Commie newspaper an excellent opportunity to write about what the “land of the free” is really all about.
